Little Pink Lotus

I met her for the first time at an old brick kiln. She was a little girl, and surprised me by showing me of all the pictures of lotus flowers hanging on the walls of her small room.

On the day I went to pick her up to come live with the OBV family, she looked up at me and said 'I stayed up last night waiting for you'. And she gave me some origami stars. I wondered how she could still be so full of energy, so full of life, and have such a colourful and positive outlook for her future.

And you know...just as the memories and pain and trauma that she had encountered were starting to heal, the trial for her father and grandfather began. We at OBV were afraid she wouldn't be able to psychologically handle the pressure, or the memories being dragged out again. We all had a meeting with Pink Lotus the night before the trial to reassure her that we, along with her grandmother, would be there by her side. That she could still have a bright future, have all her dreams come true, and one day have a big family.

On that day, the law would find justice for Pink Lotus.

One that day, Pink Lotus would regain just a smidgen of her dignity.

OBV thanks Ms. Diem Phuong, our in-house lawyer for her never ending support to OBV and of course, to our little Pink Lotus.
