Reflection of Mission Trip

Every year, Father Martino Nguyễn Bá Thông leads mission trips to Vietnam, Cambodia, and other Southeast Asia countries (such as Laos, Singapore or Malaysia...) entitled "Lend A Hand." Father Thông reminds all the participants that the purpose of the mission "is not DOING but LEARNING. When you are on the mission you don't do a lot! I want you to open your heart, mind, ears, and eyes to feel, live, listen, see and learn. The DOING begins when you return home to your own country. You can talk about OBV mission and works with passion, so you can be the VOICE and the HAND of the many children being sold and forced into sex exploitation and trafficking!"

Below are some of their reflections.

This morning our Mission Group said our goodbyes to the children and headed to Dong Nai where Cha Tich operates many charitable initiatives. One of them includes feeding the poor families and staff of the Dong Nai Hospital for only 5000 VND. His restaurant is called "Quan Com Tinh Thuong Khat Vong Song" and is staffed by volunteers. Today, we have the privilege to help prepare lunch for the surrounding community. (Angela Nguyen)

Day 2 Mission Trip 2016 success! We made congee for breakfast, bo luc lac for lunch, and canh chua/ bbq chicken for dinner! The girls ate it up and still had energy to play all night. This is a tough job and we appreciate the OBV staff who do it 24/7! (Angela Nguyen)

Squadron Without... Captain!

9:10 PM

I was wandering near the hotel where the captain (rev. Nguyen ba Thong) stay, about to buy thing needed for our fly by night trip, while waiting for departure time (10PM) on February 2nd, 2010, suddently my cell phone rang, the person on the other end screaming:

"T return immediately. I am having a heart attack!!"

I immedately rushed back to the hotel worrying if the singer Ha Bao Thu could not find thebag of medicine weighed about a pound belonged to the captain? I wondered if she found the right medicine? Today she cancelled her various performances to follow the captain to fly by day (cooked for the children with Down syndrome in Can Gio) and tonight fly by night! Therefore, we both stay at the hotel with our captain and Dr Quoc, the Eucharistic Youth Group Leader, who the captain took along to Vietnam to take care of the captain!

At that moment, Dr Quoc just left the hotel so Thu called the Dr "Quoc, return immediately, the Father is very sick"

Students, young people from the region and the parish came from four corners of the earth, but were quickly joined together for they shared the same passion and zeal for life through lively games as well as discussion topics.

Today, Fr. Martino, Mother Ngoc, OBV VN staff, and the staff of '5 Thang 2' and 'SPA Thien Y' left the office at 4AM to attend the wedding of an OBV child in Ninh Thuan. Therefore, aunts Thom and Thuy joined the OBV Cambodia staff and the Mission Trip 2015 pariticipants took the children to an outing at Dam Sen Water Park from morning till afternoon.

Every year around January, a Mission trip takes place under the guidance of Father Martino. This year is no exception. The trip took place with much anticipation and enthusiasm from the participants. All participants must have had the heart to love to be able to set aside all their personal plans to participate in this trip.

First day: Everyone gathered to listen, observe, and get a sense for the works of the mission that OBV is pursuing, and complete the required paper work; followed by the introduction, reviewing the agenda and the engagement rules for the trip.
