Echo of Spring

an old article...

"Many a child smiling in new clothes. Happy New Year."

A visitor came to an OBV hose and told Father Thong, "Here the children are so happy!" Father Thong replied gently, "My children cannot be as happy as your children. But those are my children and I would like to do the best to my children, as you were doing, are doing, and will be doing the best to your children."

In fact, not only on the Tet occasion but on other occasions like New School Year or Christmas, OBV children are taken are of very specially. This year is not an exception. Tet came quickly. Everybody was busy preparing for tet when the Christmas season hadn't been over yet.

Sister L. couldn't wait to bring joy to the children. That morning, she took each child's measurement, and went shopping for their clothes. At 1:00 pm, she called and offered to bring clothes to the house. She came and discussed things with Sister N. in the living room, but children in the sleeping room must have heard their talking and felt excited. Soon after they got up, a child asked, "Has Sisier L. bought our clothes?"_ "Yes, that's right." _ "Could we see them?"

There's an old saying which is very true:
"Happy as when an elderly receives a bowl of soup, happy as when a child gets a new shirt."
"Many a child smiling in new clothes. Happy New Year."

Letters to Mom N.

An old article...

Two weeks had been passing. To follow the repair of the new home of OBV's children, the supervisor of OBV's house, whom the kids love to call mommy, could not be beside them to take care of them. However, Mommy talked to kids on the phone every day.The kids wrote these letters sealed with love to Mommy.

"Mommy, I don't know which major to choose from. Tell me please, which one? Besides, I have to fill the blank of Father's name in identity documents. But I don't know what to write in there. What should I do? How's it going Mommy? Come back to us soon, Mommy. Love you, T."

"Mommy, how are you? Don't worry for us. You should eat a lot. If you look too thin, we will make you eat twice. I wish you a lot of health and peace. We love you. Your daughter, H."

"I miss you so much, Mommy. I hope you will be always healthy and peaceful in God's love. I apologize for making you disappointed. Remember to take care of yourself. I really want that time will come soon when you finish your work and come back to us. I miss you so much that I can't enjoy meal every day, whether it's delicious or not. Your daughter, H".

"Mommy, I love you and miss you so much! D and I now have become the most mischievous ones. Come back to us soon, Mommy ^^. Your daughter, M."

"Do you miss me, Mommy? Please take care of yourself. I did well in the play Tam Cam. When you come home, I will act again. Love you. Your daughter, Đ"

"Mommy, despite summer vacation, I still read books, do Math homework and study at home. My sore throat has gone. I'm fine now. You, too Mommy! Your daughter, Ha".

"Mommy, my summer has been coming. It's a little sad not to go to school in the morning. But it's good to be home for a longer time. I have almost finished reading a book and learning the multiplication table. Please remember to take care of yourself and eat a lot. I dream of you every night, Mommy. Your daughter, Ky."

"Do you miss us, Mommy? Although I have just come here, I love you so much, Mommy. Please remember to take care of yourself and don't work too much, Mommy! I'm waiting to see you. Ms. L. will take me to the dentist. Then I will be confident to smile. That's good. I love you. Your daughter, S."

"I miss you so much, Mommy. Please remember to take care of yourself. When you come home, we will massage you, OK? This evening I got an X. I'm sorry, Mommy. Please don't be sad about that. Love you! Your daughter, N."

"How are you, Mommy? When will you come home? We miss you so much. Now I am learning hard and not watching films too much. I am going to finish my embroidery design. Will you come to see me this Sunday in the exam for an upper level of Aikido? I hope you will. Good night, Mommy. I miss you and love you so much. Your daughter, G."

"I miss you so much, Mommy! You, too right? Please go to bed early. And take care of yourself, too. I've heard that you are not having good meals. Please eat good food. If you don't, you will be thin and sick. I miss you so much. All I want is going there beside you. Kiss you, Mommy. Your daughter, Hg."

Love and Care

An old article...

Uncle An

Before the Mission Trip started, Mom N. told the kids that Dad Thong and his friends would come to visit them, including a doctor - PHD (but not the one who works at the hospital!)

-       How could we call him, Mom?

-       He’s older than Dad Thong, then you should call him uncle, OK?

Uncle An was too busy to have a meeting with kids. That made him worried. He then decided to take a longer meeting with kids while he was staying here with us for one night, two days.

The End-of-the-Year Prayer

An old article...

The End-of-the-Year Prayer at Mother Mary's shrine

Mom: Here we were at the last few hours of the year of 2013 which would soon pass. With this passing of time, we can not help but realized the graces of God in our lives through the love of our parents, the love of "Dad", and the numerous family of people who labored, provided and cared for us.

There were only eight kids of all ages at our home when Professor Jesse came to teach us how to self-defense. How about are the new-coming kids? Who will teach them the martial arts?

Hurt - So much hurt

The title of this article is taken from Fr. Martino's uttered words after learning about the stories of the two girls who recently arrived at the OBV home.

It has been a week since the two came to live at the home. There are noticeable changes in the two girls – both positive and joyous. However, there are things we've yet uncovered; things that hurt deeply.

Little C malnourished and frail when she arrived at OBV home.

I used to be very happy when I looked back my achievements such as our children are wise, and were recovered intact. They have grown up; have studied well and have had good jobs.

I used to be very happy when our adopted children were in the same household book with me. A family has full of caring, sharing and happiness. When they were back to their parents, they usually call me to ask how I was that day, or to ask for an advice if they are facing difficulties.

I used to be expected that my children's future will be good. They will be independent. They will have their own families/children and they will be happy.

However, no one raises their child perfectly without difficulties in their lives.

People say that "One good turn deserves another". Don't wait for becoming a rich man to start sharing, we should learn to share with others even though we are in difficulties and disadvantages, because there is always someone's life being much harder. Therefore, Dr Thanh Tam (MD) and Dr Duy An (PhD) drove us to some places, namely "The Baby graveyard" and "Nursing home for the elders"

After that trip, they left us some notes, I would like to quote here...

(Mother N. and the parents)

As usual, at the end of each year, we have a meeting with parents in order to provide information about their children's life in OBV. This year, after receiving the notification from OBV, all parents attended the meeting with us. Even though there were many disadvantages, they still arrived on time. For instance, some of them who live far away had arrived one day before and stayed overnight in OBV, or some drove during midnight to OBV. However, there were still some who couldn't make it due to personal circumstances.

A Few Minutes' Recollection

Extracurricular activities for the children of OBV have been finished, but the images of them running, jumping, laughing, somehow are still in my heart. What impressed me most was the moments when in the end of the day, the children were sitting in a circle to think about themselves.

In the circle, the silence, the melody, the heartfelt spoken words... all of that made the children and me think. To help us forget all about the world outside uncle Sy told us to close our eyes, relax and reminded us to think about our families, about our beloved ones, about the time that we made the others sad and disappointed. And just like that, the melody, the silence, the sentiments, the questions were repeated over and over again in our heads, and stuck in our mind.
